The top eight pairs of men and women will compete in a Round Robin round, and then the top two from each group will play the semifinals and later the finals in both categories.

The event director, Gustavo Santoscoy Jr., spoke to La Aficion about the tournament they are organizing.

"From December 7th to 11th, the best paddles come here to the Pan American Tennis Complex where the best ranked players of the APT Padel Tour circuit will participate. There are more than 14 countries involved, such as Spain, Portugal, Hungary, South Africa, and Argentina, and the culmination of this great circuit here in Mexico," he shared.

In addition, he talked about the process his team has gone through in changing from racket to paddle after organizing the WTA tournaments in the "Pearl of the West".

"I think it's very similar, we have a complete team that works on the tennis event. As soon as the WTA 1000 ended, we switched from racket to paddle. There are different regulations and rules, there are four glass walls, that's the biggest change we have, and the whole team is adapting," he added.

Furthermore, he narrated the process of obtaining such a significant event in the world of padel for the first time.

"The story of bringing padel here is interesting, I have been playing padel for the last few years of my life, I have been very interested in it, and after last year's finals, a friend from the APT contacted us and asked if we were interested in organizing a tournament. As a fan, it makes me very excited to be sought after," he said.

Padel is returning to its birthplace in Mexico, and it does so in an era when it has gained greater relevance throughout the country with the growth of clubs.

"It is the fastest growing sport in Mexico. In Guadalajara, there has been a growth of 20 padel clubs in the last year. The fans are already there, it's just a matter of giving it that final push so they can experience it at the highest level," he concluded.
