The Mexican women's U-17 team defeated Spain 2-1 in their second group stage match of the World Cup
The team coached by Ana Galindo achieved victory with goals from Maribel Flores and Montserrat Saldívar at DY Patil Stadium, where Judit Pujols' goal for the Spanish team was not enough.
The Tri saw a great performance from Tatiana Flores, who played a key role in pressuring the Spanish defense, leading to two mistakes that determined the outcome of the match and left Spain with only three points.
In the 47th minute of the second half, Maribel Flores took advantage of a rebound from goalkeeper Sofía Fuente Andrés to push the ball into the net and give Mexico a 1-0 lead.
After a response from Spain, the European team equalized thanks to an error by goalkeeper Renatta Cota, who let the ball slip on a cross and Pujols simply put it into the net, motivating her teammates who had several opportunities to score the 2-1 goal.
In the final stretch of the match, Saldívar sealed the victory with a great play from Tatiana Flores, making it 2-1 and leaving the Group C standings very tight, as all the teams have three points and will fight for a spot in the next round in the final match of the group stage.
The women's Tri will face Colombia in the closing match of the first phase on Tuesday, October 18.
