SAN LUIS POTOSÍ -- Nicolás Ibáñez, forward for Pachuca and current top scorer of the Apertura 2022, confessed that he is already going through the necessary procedures to obtain his naturalization as a Mexican citizen and did not rule out wearing the Mexican national team shirt in the future.

"There is still a long way to go, I am just starting the paperwork and hopefully in the future, if it happens (a call-up), it would be very welcome. As I said, it would be a great honor because my children are from Pachuca and San Luis. If it happens at some point, it would be very welcome," said the Argentine goal scorer after the victory of the Tuzos 1-2 against Atlético de San Luis.

Without delving further into the subject of his interest in wearing the Mexican national team jersey, the forward expressed satisfaction with the individual level he is experiencing, as well as the collective level, as the team has already achieved one of the goals it set at the beginning of the tournament.

"Very happy about the victory and because we are among the top four qualifiers, it was a goal. Very happy, enjoying the moment and working every day to improve," said Ibáñez.

In addition, he stated that the Tuzos want to get rid of the bitter taste left by the final of the last tournament, when they reached the final against Atlas, which they lost.

"As I said before, we have that thorn of the past final that we lost and hopefully we can be at the top fighting," he said.

Furthermore, Ibáñez pointed out that while he does not consider Pachuca a title contender, he will fight against any team he has to face in the final phase.

"We are preparing to finish the tournament in the best possible way, preparing for the playoffs, which are another tournament and will be very tough. I don't know if we are contenders, but we will fight until the end," he said.

Currently, Nicolás Ibáñez has scored 11 goals and is the leader in the individual scoring table, with one goal advantage over Henry Martín, striker for América. The Tuzos will end their participation in the regular season with a visit to Monterrey, while the Eagles will play in Puebla.
