MEXICO -- Fernando 'Nene' Beltrán, midfielder for Chivas and who was selected by Gerardo Martino for the next two friendly matches of the Mexican National Team, against Peru and Colombia, publicly committed to giving tlacoyos to the Guadalajara fans.

'Nene' Beltrán was invited to a Twitter Spaces by Chivas, where he interacted with some 'chivahermanos' and ended up offering tlacoyos at his food stand for a whole day if 'Rebaño' manages to win the Apertura 2022.

Fernando Beltrán and his family have a tlacoyo business in Zapopan, Jalisco. Hence the idea of the Chivas player to give away this typical Mexican food, which is made with corn dough.

When asked directly by the interviewer, the player affirmed that he prefers (obviously) tlacoyos over the famous tortas ahogadas, a famous dish in Jalisco.

"It is a fact that I will choose tlacoyos, there is no doubt about that. It's like asking me to choose another Mexican team; I will never hesitate, I'm always Chivas," said Fernando Beltrán.

THE NATIONAL CLASSIC

On the other hand, Fernando Beltrán regretted the recent 4-1 defeat of the Rojiblancos against Tigres at the Akron Stadium and after stating that "Nahuel Guzmán was vital" for the felines in this match, he assured that today "we are already calm; the idea that our coach Ricardo Cadena transmits to us is clearer than ever."

He claimed that despite the aforementioned setback, which broke a streak of seven games without defeat for Chivas, they do not feel uncomfortable or have low self-esteem, facing the National Classic next Saturday at the Azteca Stadium.

"Individualities are important for them; playing as a team is our strength," warned Beltrán.

He said, "I hope we come out more focused, I hope it's a great match, exciting, and above all, that we show that fight, that courage of being Mexican and playing as a team."

Although 'Nene' Beltran thanked the support of the fans, he was direct in pointing out: "You have to support any player, it can't happen that one makes a mistake and we end up booing the teammate in the next play."

On the other hand, he said he feels fortunate "because not everyone is captain in this club. I am learning a lot from 'Chapo' Sánchez because of the leadership he has and what he represents in Chivas."

"I'm not going to leave this club, and I don't want to retire without being a champion. And not just once, twice, three or four times, but as many times as God allows me to be a champion with the club... If at some point I am not doing well and I have to step aside, I will do it because of the great affection I have for the institution," he added.

THE ORIGIN OF 'NENE'

Fernando Beltrán also took the time to remember the origin of the nickname he is known by in Mexican soccer, after a fan asked who called him 'Nene'.

"'Nene' was given to me by Edson Torres when we were in Básicas... Because I was the 'Nene' favored by the coaches and always played," he explained.
