He wants the cup: goal by Alexander Callens for the 1-0 of Atlas vs. New York City [VIDEO]

Miercoles 14 de Septiembre del 2022

The Peruvian defender of New York City was in charge of opening the scoring against Atlas in the Campeones Cup, in the United States.

No perdonó. Alexander Callens, Peruvian defender for New York City, was responsible for opening the scoring for his team against the 'Foxes' from Atlas in the Champions Cup being held in the United States. The 'Pigeons' player showcased a great finish in the box to make it 1-0 temporarily at Yankee Stadium.

Just when everyone expected a balanced match at the beginning, Alexander Callens made his presence felt on Atlas' field by scoring the first goal for NYFC in the 4th minute of the game. Benefited by a save by goalkeeper Camilo Vargas, the center-back only had to tap the ball in to become the momentary hero of New York.

Atlas seeks to put an end to the reign of Major League Soccer (MLS) teams in this 'Supercup' between the champions of Mexico and the United States, after the Columbus Crew and Atlanta United defeated Cruz Azul and America's 'Eagles' respectively in the last two years.

PRE-MATCH PREVIEW

For Mexican football, this match represents an opportunity for revenge after the Seattle Sounders defeated Pumas in the final of the CONCACAF Champions League earlier this year, returning the title to the MLS after 22 years of waiting.

As you may recall, Atlas won the Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2022 of Mexican football, but in the Apertura 2022, they find themselves in second-to-last place with two wins, four draws, and nine losses. New York City, on the other hand, is also struggling with poor results.
