The Feyenoord will play a friendly match against Osasuna on Sunday, the last friendly before the start of the 2022-2023 season
The Mexican forward, Santiago Gimenez, will return to Mexico to process his work visa and be able to play for Feyenoord, the team that presented the former Cruz Azul forward as their new player.
Gimenez has no return date to Rotterdam and the team does not know when he could make his debut, as the forward must first have his initial training sessions and adapt to coach Arne Slot.
"It's a giant club and we will try to win everything, those are the goals and objectives. We aim to win everything and also try to go to the World Cup in the national team if God wants and win," he said in an interview for ESPN.
The expectations to see Gimenez with his new team extend beyond August 7, the day De Trots van Zuid (The Pride of the South) will make their debut in the Eredivisie.
The Feyenoord will play a friendly match against Osasuna from Spain on Sunday, the last friendly before the start of the 2022-2023 season.
Gimenez decided to sign with the team from Rotterdam, and in his first impressions, he stated that he has been welcomed with open arms and has been supported in everything he has needed.
"They have been very attentive, in all the medical tests. From what they told me, they have a lot of faith in me and now it's up to me, I'm going to give my best to be a great player for the team."
Furthermore, he reiterated that he had a strong intention to come to the Eredivisie, as it is a league that he constantly followed due to the number of Mexicans who have played there.
"I knew that the movement of a Mexican to a country like this, where we have always done well, would cause a bit of a stir. I know a lot about Dutch football because honestly, since I was in Mexico, I liked watching European football, and one of the leagues I watched the most was the Dutch league simply because there were great Mexican players here. I know it's difficult," he said.
