'Míchel' in 'Hugo Sánchez Presenta' talked about the adaptation problems that José Juan Macías went through during his brief spell at Getafe
Miguel González 'Míchel', the coach who took José Juan Macías to Europe, expressed that the forward arrived as a star and undisputed starter at Chivas, but he didn't have what it takes to play or earn a place in Getafe's starting lineup, showing that the Mexican player struggles to compete.
"I brought José Juan Macías to Getafe and he is a star, but he came here and he tried, but by the time he tried, he had already been surpassed and there came a point where with what he did here he was an undisputed starter in Mexico," said 'Míchel' in the latest edition of Hugo Sánchez Presenta, which can be seen on Star+.
"In Guadalajara, he couldn't walk down the street because people recognized him, but in Madrid, he wasn't as well known and that has to do with the competitive character of the players. I think players feel very comfortable in Mexico and they struggle to leave because they struggle to compete."
'Míchel' had a stint in Mexican soccer coaching Pumas during the Apertura 2019 and Clausura 2020, during which he managed 34 games with 13 wins, 10 draws, and 11 losses.
During that year in Liga MX, he met José Juan Macías, who at the time scored 13 goals and provided two assists, numbers that attracted the Spanish coach, who brought him to reinforce the Spanish squad when he took over Getafe in the summer of 2021.
Macías wore the number 9 and played while 'Míchel' was in charge of the team. Out of the eight matches that the Spanish coach managed, the Mexican player participated in seven, accumulating 221 minutes on the field.
¡The departure of 'Míchel' from Getafe cost the Mexican player playing time, as with Quique Sánchez Flores, he only participated in one Copa del Rey match, where he played 24 minutes.
Even though Getafe had agreed with Chivas for a one-year loan with an option to buy, Macías returned to Guadalajara six months later due to the lack of playing time he had after the arrival of Quique Sánchez Flores.
