Guadalajara finally ends its goal drought in Apertura 2022, but fails to capitalize on dominance for victory

Chivas ended their goal drought in Liga MX after 226 minutes without scoring in the tournament. Guadalajara drew 1-1 against Santos Laguna in a match corresponding to Matchday 3 of Apertura 2022, in which Ricardo Cadena experimented with José de Jesús González as the starting center forward, a move that worked for him as 'Tepa' was the one who scored the only goal for the team.

However, once again, the lack of effectiveness took its toll on Chivas, who despite dominating Santos, were unable to extend their lead to secure their first victory of the season.

'Tepa' González ends Chivas' goal drought

Ricardo Cadena chose José de Jesús González to be Chivas' starting center forward against Santos, and it was precisely 'Tepa' who ended Guadalajara's drought in the Apertura 2022. The attacker, registered with Tapatío, pushed the ball into the net in the 47th minute after an individual play by Alexis Vega, scoring the first goal for the Rebaño in the tournament after 226 minutes.

Chivas came into the match against Santos as the only team that had not scored in the first two matchdays, in which they faced Juárez and Atlético de San Luis.

VAR comes into play to validate Santos' goal

Eduardo Aguirre equalized the score in the 70th minute. 'Mudo' appeared inside the opposing area, where he cut past Luis Olivas and Jesús Orozco to beat Miguel Jiménez with a powerful shot. However, initially, the goal was disallowed for offside, but after reviewing the action in the VAR, the goal was validated.

Miguel Jiménez saves Chivas

The goalkeeper of Guadalajara made three saves in the final part of the first half. With a left-handed save, he prevented Harold Preciado from scoring in the 34th minute. Subsequently, the goalkeeper had two actions against Marcelo Correa. In the 39th minute, he dived to save a shot, and in the 42nd minute, he closed in to block the Argentine forward's shot.
