After being loaned for three seasons to Tecos de los Dos Laredos, Roberto Valenzuela will return to the Sultanes for 2023, stated the president of Monterrey, José Maiz García.
In an interview on the radio show Bateo Libre, Pepe Maiz explained that they agreed to loan the Sonoran shortstop so he could continue the development he has had in recent months, following a request made by the leadership of the border team.
"Yes, definitely, he should have come back this year, we agreed because we also saw what we were going to do to have Ramiro, Salazar or Tito on the bench because the infield was very complete," declared Maiz García.
"That's why we accepted for him to stay another year there, but next year the rights belong to Sultanes, he is loaned to the Tecolotes de Laredo, there is a signed paper that says it was for three seasons."
The executive also said that they plan to bring Gerardo Álvarez back to manage the Sultanes in the Mexican Pacific League. They stated that the project is for the capital of Nuevo León to continue having professional baseball in the winter for a long time.
"Of course, it is a long-term project, we want to be, as we have been until now, the only franchise that is in the two major leagues of the country, we want to move forward because besides, we spend many months without baseball, we do want to participate in the Pacific League forever," said Pepe Maiz.
They said they are considering adding another executive for the role of winter team manager.
