Mexican Sergio Perez suffered a spin during the start of the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix, after colliding with George Russell's car and dropped to the last place in the race that took place at the Spielberg circuit.

The Red Bull driver tried to overtake the British Mercedes driver at one of the corners, just in the first lap, but their tires touched and the Mexican went straight into the gravel, allowing others to overtake him and leave him at the back.

When Checo went for Russell's position, Russell closed the gap and ended up giving a slight collision with the rear wheel of the Mexican car, forcing him to go to the pits to change his tires to hard ones.

Perez returned to the track from the last place at the Spielberg circuit, so he had to climb positions once the new tires were heated, as there were great expectations for the Red Bull team at their home Grand Prix.

After the incident, the FIA and Formula 1, along with the race direction, investigated the situation to determine the degree of responsibility that George had, as he put Checo in a complicated position.

Once the situation was analyzed, Perez was penalized with a 5-second time penalty for causing the spin of Sergio, and he had to serve the penalty at his first pit stop, dropping to 15th place in the Grand Prix.

In the end, the Mexican driver had to abandon the Austrian race, as the damage to the car from the collision with the British driver prevented him from overtaking at least Latifi, and the team decided to retire him.
