The day that all América fans were eagerly waiting for has finally arrived. Jonathan Rodríguez , the luxury reinforcement of the 'Águilas' for the Apertura 2022 of the Liga MX , is now at the Coapa facilities. The Uruguayan arrived in Mexico City on the morning of the last Wednesday, June 29th, and immediately joined the technical staff led by coach Fernando Ortiz.
The Twitter account of América documented Jonathan Rodríguez, who -after a short meeting with the directors- jumped onto the training fields of Coapa, where he embraced some of his new teammates and trained separately from the team to get ready for the Apertura 2022.
Arrives after a long break
With just a few hours of rest, the bomb signing of the 'Águilas' is already training in Coapa, but Fernando Ortiz's coaching staff wants to take it slow and will not play him in the debut this Saturday against Atlas. They don't want to risk him, because 'Cabecita' arrives with a month of inactivity, taking into account that his last match was with Al-Nassr.
It is known that on Thursday, 'Cabecita' Rodríguez will return to training in a differentiated way, and little by little, the intensity of the workload will be increased until he can be on par with the rest of the squad. It is also expected that during the remaining days of the week, América's management can officially announce the departure of Colombian Juan Otero in order to register the Uruguayan in his place.
When does the Apertura 2022 tournament start?
The Apertura 2022 of the Liga MX will begin next Friday, July 1st, with the match between Necaxa and Toluca at the Estadio Victoria de Aguascalientes. Meanwhile, América will start the tournament at home, at the Estadio Azteca, against Atlas, the reigning Mexican champion.
The format of the championship will be the same in Mexico, with 17 matchdays, where the top twelve teams will advance to the next round. Later, the teams placed 1st to 4th will go directly to the Liguilla, while teams placed 5th to 12th will play a repechaje to enter the 'Fiesta Grande', which consists of quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final that will be played home and away.
