Washington Corozo, one of the main figures of Sporting Cristal in 2020, returned to Peru to train with the club. The Ecuadorian did not renew with Pumas UNAM from Mexico, the team he arrived on loan in July 2021. In light of this situation, Carlos Lobatón clarified in an interview with Ovación what will happen with the 23-year-old player.
"Corozo is training at Cristal as he has a contract with us. He finished his contract with Pumas, who did not want to exercise the buy option, and he must return to the club. However, his agent is handling four or five offers, and he does not intend to return to Peru," stated the current coordinator of the club.

Due to Sporting Cristal's current situation with their attackers, a recurring discussion among fans is the possibility of a foreign reinforcement. After terminating Colombian player John Jairo Mosquera's contract, the only regular center forward in the squad is Percy Liza.
In this context, the news of Corozo's return caught the attention of several people. However, it is most likely that he will continue his career abroad, as confirmed by Carlos Lobatón himself. Currently, the main alternatives for the club in Corozo's usual position are Fernando Pacheco, Alejandro Hohberg, and Joao Grimaldo.

Washington Corozo came on as a substitute for Joao Rojas at the 66th minute and played on the left wing in Gustavo Alfaro's 4-2-3-1 formation. He did not have much contact with the ball beyond a few short passes and remained on the bench in the 0-0 draw with Chile in the following matchday. Since then, he has not been called up again.
