Thanks to the leadership he has shown in Pumas, the top scorer compared Juan Dinenno to the player of the merengues.
The legend of Real Madrid and the Mexican National Team, Hugo Sanchez, pointed out that Juan Ignacio Dinenno has become the "Karim Benzema" of Pumas thanks to his great performances in the Concacaf Champions League.
In the program "Futbol Picante" on ESPN, Hugo Sanchez, the historic goalscorer for the 'Merengues', compared Juan Dinenno to 'El Gato' because both players have become key figures in their respective squads this season.
"Dinenno is taking on the responsibility of a leader, a player who wants to carry Pumas. We could make a comparison that my teammates could "bounce" off of, but Dinenno is becoming the Benzema of Pumas. He is taking on that leadership," he said.
The 27-year-old Argentine has established himself as the star of the university squad in the Concachampions with nine goals in seven games. The former Racing and Deportivo Cali player scored two goals in the first leg against the Seattle Sounders in the final of the Concacaf tournament.
In the Liga MX, Juan Dinenno did not have great numbers in the Clausura 2022 Tournament, however, the Argentine striker was key in Pumas qualifying for the playoffs by scoring two goals in the last regular season match against Pachuca.
On the other hand, Karim Benzema has 26 goals in LaLiga and 14 goals in the Champions League, a competition in which he has stood out as the main protagonist in the historic comebacks achieved by Real Madrid against PSG and Chelsea in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, respectively.
Pumas will face Seattle Sounders tomorrow to determine the champion of the Concacaf Champions League after a 2-2 draw in the first leg last Wednesday. The champion of the competition will also secure a spot in the upcoming Club World Cup.
