America defeated Tigres in an away game in Liga MX.

The Eagles of America, led by Argentine coach Fernando Ortiz, defeated Tigres UANL 2-0 on Saturday and climbed to fourth place in the 2022 Clausura tournament of Mexican soccer.

In the continuation of the penultimate round of the championship, Chilean Diego Valdés and Mexican Henry Martín each scored a goal to secure the victory for the azulcremas.

In the first half, Tigres missed a goal opportunity in the 31st minute, when Guido Pizarro received a pass from Frenchman Florian Thauvin and missed a header shot with everything in his favor.

Two minutes later, Valdés entered the area, shook off two defenders, and scored with his right foot, beating Argentine goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán.

América dominated the second half against América, coached by Miguel Herrera, but wasted at least three clear goal opportunities, with the most obvious one in the 72nd minute when Salvador Reyes made a glaring miss after receiving a pass from Valdés.

Tigres were left with 10 men on the field due to Pizarro's expulsion in the 88th minute. América took advantage, intensified their attack, and sealed the victory in the 92nd minute with a goal from Martín, assisted by Peruvian Pedro Aquino.

Frustrated, the Tigres players struggled to accept the defeat and had some rough tackles, but nothing serious. América climbed from eighth to fourth place with seven wins, four draws, five losses, and 25 points, seven fewer than Tigres, who are second in the table.
