The 'Indiecito' team couldn't lift the cup. The 'Rayados' from Monterrey defeated America, led by Argentine coach Santiago Solari, 1-0 this Thursday and won their fifth Concachampions title.

In a match between two teams from Mexican soccer, Rogelio Funes Mori scored in the 9th minute the goal that tied Monterrey with Pachuca in third place among the most winners of the Concacaf Champions League, two trophies away from the team with the most titles, America.

The 'Rayados', who also qualified for the upcoming Club World Cup, put pressure on the yellow team from the first minutes and opened the scoring in the 9th minute.

Jesús Gallardo, from the left side, crossed a ball that brushed off Uruguayan defender Sebastián Cáceres and left it for Funes Mori to convert with his left foot, making it 1-0.

Monterrey lost their momentum, but the Eagles struggled to generate offensive plays. It was not until the 36th minute that Solari's team troubled the Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada, with a free kick from Paraguayan Richard Sánchez that threatened his right post, and in the 44th minute with a shot from Henry Martín that was rejected by the goalkeeper.

They returned to their offensive game in the second half and came close to increasing their lead. In the 57th minute, Funes Mori shot a ball that grazed the crossbar, and in the 80th minute, the Dutchman Vincent Janssen tricked goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, took a shot, but Cáceres cleared it near the goal line.

America reacted in stoppage time with a shot from Uruguayan Federico Viñas that hit the crossbar. (EFE)
