The Mexican national team returns to Liga MX after playing more than 12 years abroad
Hector Moreno, three-time World Cup player with the Mexican National Team, will join Monterrey Rayados for the Apertura 2021, after playing more than 12 years abroad.
"Welcome back to Mexico and welcome to Club de Futbol Monterrey Rayados, @hectormorenoh! Let's make history together and defend the blue and white with pride," Monterrey posted on their social media.
Moreno, 33, returns to Mexico after leaving in 2007 to play for AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands. The defender had stints in the soccer leagues of the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Qatar, his last stop before returning to Liga MX.
Javier Aguirre coincided with Hector Moreno in Spanish soccer, during both Mexicans' time at Espanyol in Barcelona. Now, they reunite in Mexico, at Monterrey, thanks to the central defender's arrival as a free agent, after ending his contract with Al-Gharafa in Qatar.

Hector Moreno's intention is to have more playing minutes in order to dream of a fourth World Cup, which would be the one in Qatar in 2022, his last as a player for the Mexican National Team.
The central defender was captain of the Mexican National Team on several occasions and was considered the successor to Rafael Marquez, with elite European teams also becoming interested in the Mexican, although he only had a brief spell at Roma in Italy with little success.
The central defender, who was developed in Pumas, was one of the Mexican players with the most regularity in European soccer, with Javier Aguirre also coinciding in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Hector Moreno also had the opportunity to play in MLS, as he was linked to some clubs in that league, but in the end, he chose to return to Mexico with Monterrey Rayados.
