Mexico's President Congratulates Cruz Azul for Winning the Clausura 2021 Tournament
The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, congratulated the Cruz Azul team for winning the Clausura 2021 tournament of Mexican soccer and ending a drought of more than 23 years without a league title.
"Congratulations to Cruz Azul, the curse is over. Hugs to those from the house of shared pain," wrote the president on his Twitter account, referring to the ninth star of the Blues under the leadership of Peruvian coach Juan Reynoso, against the Santos Laguna of Uruguayan strategist Guillermo Almada.
López Obrador, who plays baseball recreationally and supports that sport from his government, hinted that he is aware of the legends surrounding the title drought of the Celestials, who had last won in the winter of 1997 when Juan Reynoso was the leader of the defense and the captain.
Congratulations to Cruz Azul, the curse is over. Hugs to those from the house of shared pain.
