The president Santiago Baños did not ensure the continuity of the Mexican forward after two years in the institution
Less than five months before Giovani dos Santos' contract ends with América, the president of the team, Santiago Baños, does not ensure the continuity of the Mexican forward, who will complete his second year with the Coapa team at the end of Guard1anes 2021.
In an interview for ESPN Radio Fórmula, the executive said that they will sit down with the player and his agent in the last months of the tournament.
"It's still early to make a decision. We will sit down closer to the end of the tournament to analyze whether we will renew Gio or any other player," he said.
He also stated over the phone that they will sit down with coach Santiago Solari to see if "we will let go of [any player] to bring in reinforcements that Solari and the coaching staff require."
"There is still more than half of the tournament and the playoffs left, and we will do a specific analysis," he explained.
Asked about the style of play that the coach has implemented in his first championship in Mexico, where he has America in third place, Baños said that he prefers to see the team in the top positions and then seek an enjoyable style of play.
"I like to win. On Saturday we were in first place and there is an opportunity to improve, but Solari has only had seven matches and we didn't have a preseason and had almost a week before the start of the tournament, and he didn't form the squad. It's always better to try to improve in the match proceedings and be aware that the squad can give more and win three points every week. Now we have the FIFA break to work and a tournament with a long preseason to make adjustments," he concluded.
