Juarez FC draws 0-0 with Tijuana in Clausura-2021
Juarez FC wasted a penalty on Friday that Paraguayan forward Dario Lezcano failed to score, resulting in a 0-0 draw against Tijuana. Ecuadorian Junior Sornoza made his debut as a xoloitzcuintle, while compatriot Fidel Martinez replaced him with eleven minutes remaining. This match took place on the second game week of the Clausura-2021.
Juarez started as the dominant team. They pushed Tijuana into their half during the first 10 minutes thanks to the work in midfield from Ecuadorian Jefferson Intriago and Jose Esquivel.
The dominance paid off around the 23rd minute when Paraguayan Dario Lezcano struck a powerful shot that Tijuana goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco deflected for a corner kick.
After the first half an hour, Tijuana managed to counter the local dominance by advancing their lines. The pressure from Colombian striker Mauro Manotas and his teammate Miguel Sansores caused imprecisions in the Juarez defenders.
Despite the visitor's reaction, Juarez had the clearest chance in a one-on-one situation where Lezcano beat goalkeeper Orozco but lacked accuracy to score.
Lezcano continued to insist around the 45th minute with a half-turn shot inside the area that Jonathan Orozco sent for a corner kick.
In the second half, Juarez goalkeeper Enrique Palos had to send a crossed ball for a corner kick, which Argentine David Barbona tried to surprise him with around the 52nd minute.
Juarez responded with a shot from Intriago that the visiting goalkeeper cleared.
In the 76th minute, on a through ball, Jonathan Orozco committed a penalty on Dario Lezcano, but the Paraguayan from Juarez FC hit the crossbar.
As the match approached the end, both teams neutralized each other and couldn't find the variation to score.
Former Liga de Quito player Sornoza made his debut for the border team, while Martinez, who played for Barcelona SC and Shanghai Shenhua in 2020, was an alternate for the second time.
Ecuadorian Erick Castillo, a substitute for Flavio Santos in the 68th minute, also played minutes for Juarez.
