ORLANDO -- The Tigres de la UANL will seek their first international title when they play in the Concachampions final, and it stands out that 30 percent of the current squad, including Frenchman André-Pierre Gignac, will seek to overcome the disappointment of having fallen short in three previous editions.

The other players who have also lost finals with the felines in that tournament are Nahuel Guzmán, Hugo Ayala, Jesús Dueñas, Guido Pizarro, Jorge Torres Nilo, and Javier Aquino.

André-Pierre Gignac arrived as a reinforcement for the Felinos in the Apertura 2015 Tournament, and one of his goals has been to win an international championship with the club, but so far it remains pending.

The players who have been with the UANL team for the longest time are homegrown talent Jesús Dueñas and defenders Hugo Ayala and Jorge Torres Nilo, who have become important parts of the team in the last decade.

Torres Nilo joined the team for the Apertura 2010 tournament, when coach Ricardo Ferretti took charge of the team for his third spell and led them to prominence in Mexican football.

Ayala and Torres Nilo have won five league championships with the team, but they are part of the group of players who have fallen short in their attempt to win an international tournament for the UANL club.

Goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman joined the team as a reinforcement for the Apertura 2014, while Javier Aquino joined the squad in the Apertura 2015 and Guido Pizarro arrived for the Apertura 2013.

These seven players are looking to end the streak they have with Tigres, with whom they lost the first Concacaf Champions League final in 2016, when they were defeated by Águilas del America.

The second time they fell was in 2016, when they lost in the final against Pachuca, and the most recent one was in 2019 against Monterrey's Rayados.

Now, they have the opportunity to once again fight for an international title for Tigres, as they will face the LAFC in the match that will take place in Orlando, Florida.
