The Ecuadorian football player Jefferson Montero signs for Querétaro FC
The World Cup forward in Brazil-2014 Jefferson Montero has reached an agreement with the Mexican club Querétaro for the next two years, according to an announcement made on Friday by the Pentacorp Sport representation agency through its CEO, Oswaldo Minda.
"Very happy to announce the signing of our client Jefferson Montero for two seasons with his new club Querétaro FC from Mexico," Minda wrote in a story on his Instagram account.
At 31 years old, Montero would return to the Liga MX, where he first played for Dorados de Sinaloa and made the leap to British football from Monarcas Morelia.
Waiting for his formalization of the contract with Gallos Blancos, Turbina would arrive from England, where he resides and played his last matches for Birmingham City in the English second division (Championship). At that club, he was on loan from the Welsh Swansea City until mid-this year.
The footballer born in the Los Ríos province ended his contract with Swansea on June 30th and the British team released him from his duties at Birmingham, which also did not renew the Ecuadorian international.
In mid-year, there were already speculations of Montero's possible return to the Mexican league, specifically to Toluca. He was also linked to Arab football.
With the Blues, Montero failed to establish himself as a starter, after playing 18 games, 14 in the Championship and 4 in the FA Cup.
His best moment in British football was playing in the Premier League wearing Swansea's jersey in the 2014-2015 season.
Short-lived return to Electrico
In 2017, Jeff decided to accept a proposal from Getafe in Spain to have more playing opportunities, but he only played in four matches.
In early 2018, he returned to Emelec, the team where he made his professional debut, for only six months. He participated in twelve matches and scored one goal, but his contribution was not as expected.
Upon returning to England, he joined Swansea and was on loan to West Bromwich Albion (only during the first half of 2019) and Birmingham City (from the second half of 2019 until this year). (D)
