Colombian player Nicolás Benedetti will undergo knee surgery after getting injured in the match between America and León on Monday night, during which the midfielder had to be taken off on a stretcher.
The America player got injured while fighting for the ball, and on his way to the dressing room, he covered his face and was supported by the coaching staff with tears in his eyes.
Nicolás Benedetti left the Estadio Victoria field with tears in the 43rd minute, after the Colombian recovered the ball and assisted Henry Martín for the temporary 1-2 advantage for the Eagles. However, the South American player stayed on the ground while complaining of knee discomfort.
Just last February, the player had undergone surgery on his right knee for an anterior cruciate ligament and external meniscus injury, which he suffered during the match between Colombia and Uruguay in the Conmebol Pre-Olympic tournament.
America reported that the player has "a medial meniscus injury, which requires surgical repair that will be performed tomorrow (Wednesday)."
They also ensured that the player will be able to recover in a period of four to six weeks, so he may be able to participate in the Liguilla phase if the club advances to the semifinals or even the final.
The 'Poet' has played seven matches, five of them as a starter. Additionally, in his return, he took the starting position from Sebastián Córdova.
