Luis Fuentes trained with America after his return was announced, however, he would be ruled out for the game against Atletico San Luis
MEXICO -- Luis Fuentes experienced his first training session with America after the blue and yellow team announced the defender's return for the current Guard1anes 2020.
The club shared images of Luis Fuentes training with the rest of the squad, a team he already knows since he was part of it during the canceled Clausura 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The player was sought by the club's board as central defender Bruno Valdez suffered an injury in the game against Monterrey and underwent surgery on his left knee's medial collateral ligament and anterior cruciate ligament this Wednesday.
Luis Fuentes was part of America during Clausura 2020, where he was loaned from Tijuana to the blue and yellow team and played in nine out of the 10 matches that were played before the tournament was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Pumas youth academy product even scored two goals with the Eagles.
At the end of the previous tournament, the management of Coapa had the opportunity to sign Luis Fuentes, despite his loan having expired. This was because the player's contract with Tijuana ended and both parties did not want to renew it.
The player did not reach an economic agreement with the Eagles and has been training at home since March.
Although Luis Fuentes was present at the training session, it is unlikely that he will be part of the squad that will play against Atletico San Luis this weekend as he lacks match fitness.
America will not have any more signings
People inside the blue and yellow club confirmed to ESPN Digital that they have closed the squad for the Guard1anes 2020 with the addition of Luis Fuentes.
The defender usually plays as a full-back but can also appear in central defense if Miguel Herrera deems it necessary. For now, the back line will be composed of Luis Reyes, who also returned for this tournament, Paul Aguilar, Uruguayan Sebastián Cáceres, and Emanuel Aguilera.
