Mexican Soccer League will bet on salary cap... and Ecuadorians.

Victor Montiel, president of the new circuit, spoke with ESPN about some of the foundations they will have.

The president of the National Association of Mexican Football (ANBM) Víctor Montiel explained the foundations and principles of said organization, as well as the new Mexican Football League, which will be chaired by former footballer Carlos Salcido and will begin operations on May 15.

Montiel acknowledged on ESPN Radio Fórmula that the creation of this project "is not easy" to launch, but they hope to be an alternative for those footballers who will be left without work.

"It's not easy, when I started this project I was very convinced: I started to visualize it in my head and then in a document. Because of the career I have in the field, it has made me believe that there is a lot of talent in Mexican football that has been wasted, we were doing this project for those players who are left without playing and who can raise their hand," Montiel explained.

The leader of the new Mexican Football League recognized that they aim to provide spaces for those footballers who are left without work, where they can find opportunities to continue playing.

"There are players who are 20 or 21 years old who have not yet matured and who sometimes wait for that space to mature. In TDP, players end their career at 19 if they don't have any options or if they are not received in another league. We want them to have that process in the three divisions and be free in terms of ages, so that a 19-year-old player can continue in the Third Division and mature at 22 or 23 and become an option for the First Division anywhere," he said.

On the other hand, they seek to provide spaces in places where professional football does not exist. The places that have expressed interest are located in the north and northeast of the Mexican Republic.

"We are looking for states where there is no professional football, places that have not had the opportunity and are eager to have football in their region and raise their hand. We are having this part and it was there where I saw that talented players are left behind."

Montiel also mentioned that salaries for footballers in this league will range from 40,000 to 150,000 pesos.

"The salary cap format will help team owners not to go overboard in terms of capital by setting a limit of 150,000 pesos, and also with players who could earn from 40,000 to 50,000 pesos and that will help the teams' economy," he said.

He also mentioned that he has been keeping an eye on what is happening in other countries like Ecuador, where there are players looking for opportunities and that this league can offer them a chance; in other words, this league will allow the inclusion of players not born in Mexico.

"There is room for everyone, we are checking that there are young players of 24 years old without a contract and sometimes they go six months without playing or decide to go abroad or play in the neighborhood and get paid. Here we want them to continue in structured teams, it's an opportunity. There are unemployed players and it's not viable to continue, we want to be that option for them to continue their sports career.

"We will have a promotional program where foreign players are selected without any problem, endorsed and with the quality to play with us, not just any foreign player but a quality one. I recently went to Ecuador, there are young quality players there, without a contract and looking for an opportunity abroad," he said.
