MEXICO -- For Raul 'Potro' Gutierrez, the champion Atlante of the 1992-1993 season is the ideal version of Ricardo Antonio La Volpe and 'Lavolpismo', a philosophy that motivated several former players from that squad to follow the steps of 'Bigoton' and become strategists.
"That team from 92-93 is undoubtedly his best version. That's why many of us who are now coaches did things well, because we understood football in a different way," he said.
In an interview for ESPN Digital, 'Potro' assured that creating a style of play can transcend more than winning a title.
"He must be calm, because beyond the numbers there is the famous 'Lavolpismo' and creating a trend will always remain and that trait will remain in Mexican football with a group of coaches who also followed that football line," he declared.
In response to this, the World Cup champion of the U-17 category emphasized that 'Bigoton' "in that sense must be happy and satisfied".

Gutierrez recalled that the Potros de Hierro team was hungry for success and over the past three decades, several coaches have emerged such as Daniel Guzman, Miguel Herrera, René Isidoro García, and José Guadalupe Cruz.
"At that time, when we met La Volpe in 91, we were a group with a lot of desire to transcend and we absorbed his character and became that team we wanted to be. Then you start to understand football in the best way and with him, I understood how to play," he explained.
