SAN LUIS POTOSÍ - The Argentine Matías Catalán, San Luis' full-back, assured this Wednesday that being the fourth fastest player in the Clausura 2020 of the Mexican football league has helped him on the field.

"This sport is not based on speed, but it has helped me a lot in the game, it's something I have and must take advantage of," he revealed in an interview distributed by the Liga MX.

The 27-year-old defender reached a speed of 36 kilometers per hour, the fourth highest during the current tournament. In first place is the Ecuadorian Aníbal Chalá, from Toluca, with 36.8 kilometers per hour.

The former San Lorenzo player from his country explained that a full-back must be intelligent to be able to defend and attack, and although the second function is not obligatory, it gives an extra to the team.

"If you can be offensive, you perform better for the team. You have to be in good physical condition; adding more people to the attack is the key because there are more chances of scoring a goal. I like to attack, it's something that comes naturally to me," said the native of Mar del Plata.

The player from San Luis, a branch of Atlético de Madrid, commented that a player he admires in Mexican football is Luis 'Chaka' Rodríguez, Tigres' full-back.

"I like the tranquility of 'Chaka', I have seen him play and he is similar to how I play. Besides being fast, he joins the attack well, defends well, he is one of the full-backs that I have followed the most since I arrived in Mexico," he complemented.

San Luis managed to promote from the second division to the first division in May 2019, with Catalán in the team. In their first tournament, the Mexican 'colchoneros' did not qualify for the final phase.

"The previous tournament served us as an adaptation to the first division, the second is very different from the first, there are great players, great teams, I think we are now more mature, it is being seen on the field," said Catalán.

The South American highlighted as one of the keys to the team's improvement the coach Guillermo Vázquez, hired for this Clausura 2020.

"Vázquez's key is the message he gives us, when a group understands it, great things can be achieved, we are on the right track and we hope to continue like this. I also believe that there is a lot of camaraderie within and outside the team," Catalán concluded.
