All players devalued: Liga MX suffers a 150 million euro drop
Transfermarkt reacts to the coronavirus pandemic with a worldwide devaluation of most players. Thus, in an unprecedented measure, market values suffer a 20% cut - down to a lower limit of 300,000 euros - while players born after January 1, 1998 are devalued by 10%. In total, the update represents an international market value drop of 9.22 billion euros.
In terms of Mexican football, the squad values of the 18 Liga MX clubs plummet by almost 150 million euros. In the two most important leagues in Mexico, this results in a total market value loss of 162.3 million euros. The new cumulative value goes from 915 million to 752.6 million euros, a 17.74% decrease.
Only the squad value of Liga MX teams is reduced by 147.7 million euros, which represents a decrease of 18.97% compared to the previous record value of 778.7 million euros.
Macías is the most valuable player: Meza drops two million
The cut also means that José Juan Macías now leads the ranking of the tournament's most valuable players, with a market value of 9 million euros (-1 M€). At just 20 years old, the Chivas forward records a decrease of less than 10%, the opposite of Maximiliano Meza who is now second with 8 million euros (-2 M€) after a 20% devaluation.

Furthermore, the previously ninth-ranked Roberto Alvarado (21 years old) now ranks third in the ranking with a market value of 6.7 million euros, displacing Rogelio Funes Mori to fourth place. The attacking midfielder from Cruz Azul "benefits" from the veteran status of the 29-year-old Monterrey striker, who drops from 8 M€ to 6.5 M€.
Tigres de la UANL's value drops the most
In terms of percentage, the squad value of Tigres de la UANL is the one that drops the most at 20.1%, followed by Club León (-20%) and Pumas de la UNAM (-19.5%). On the other hand, the least affected clubs by the cut are FC Juárez (-17.6%), Monarcas Morelia (-18.06%), and Club Deportivo Guadalajara (18.07%).
The CF Monterrey remains the most valuable team in Liga MX, but loses 15.2 million euros in market value, the biggest drop in absolute terms. As a major development, and partly thanks to Macías's youth, Chivas de Guadalajara moves from sixth to fourth place with their new value (46.1 M€) and surpasses Santos Laguna and Cruz Azul.
