Antonio Briseño, Chivas defender, clarified on his Instagram account the reason for refusing a salary reduction as a possible measure amid the sports break in which Liga MX teams are suffering due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I need to pay the people I bought the house, land, apartments, etc. And obviously, they won't tell me to reduce it, lower it, or wait because they have to keep paying their construction workers, they have to keep paying the people who produce for them and live their normal lives," commented Briseño.
During the virtual press conference in which he participated on Tuesday morning, 'Pollo' Briseño mentioned that he would not be willing to have his salary affected, even if the suspension of the Liga MX had economic repercussions.
The Chivas player was heavily criticized on social media by fans, who questioned him about whether the salary he receives is enough to live on the basics. To this, Briseño responded by saying that he is not living in debt but is building a legacy for his family.
"When I say I'm going into debt, it's because I invested in land, real estate, apartments, in my house, in many things. I'm not living a luxurious life, but creating a legacy so that in the future I can have enough to live. I'm creating a stable future. To those who call me foolish or other things, I invested in things that I need to pay for. I understand the crisis that is happening, but I have my own financial obligations, and I'm not going into debt but rather investing my money," he stated.
