The season that Santiago Cáseres and Miguel Layún shared at Villarreal in La Liga in Spain was enough for the Argentine midfielder to take into account the Mexican in his decision to choose América in the last winter transfer market.

In an interview for ESPN, the defensive midfielder mentioned that his good relationship with Layún influenced his final decision, as the current Monterrey player spoke to him about what América represents in Liga BBVA MX.

"Yes, I talked to him [Layún]. I asked him for references about the club and I got along well with him. I know it was a vote of confidence, so when he gave me the references, I didn't hesitate and signed. He told me it was a first-rate club and the biggest club there is, a very media-centric club and that with responsibility and sacrifice I would do well," he said.

Similarly, he accepted that América's proposal was the best he had on the table, but he also had offers from European and Argentine football.

It was a last-minute call at the close of the transfer market. América was the best option because of the size of the club and for me to recover my level. Before that, I had options from European and Argentine football.

The South American sees his arrival in Mexico as an important opportunity, as he was close to going 10 months without participating in an official match due to a knee injury.

"Personally, I want to add minutes as soon as possible. In this loan year, I want to convince the team. That's at a personal level, and as a team, it's to reach, at least, the final in every tournament we play," he said.

"I come to try to add minutes, for the group and the squad, and give my best level. I know I have to adapt as quickly as possible," he added.

The 22-year-old player was honest and accepted that the year he is on loan in Mexico will be to recover the level he reached in his first season with the Yellow Submarine.

"I don't know if I'll go back to Europe. The first thing I want to do is recover my level and feel calm. Everything else that may come will be seen later," he concluded.
