MONTERREY - Brazilian strategist Ricardo Ferretti ruled out goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán for the quarterfinals of the Apertura 2019 Tournament, a phase in which Tigres will face América's Eagles.
"Today I talked to Doctor Oscar Salas (head of Tigres' medical services) and he has an injury, but I trust my medical department and if we manage to advance to the next phase, there is a great possibility of having him," he said.
Guzmán suffered an injury to the back of his right thigh in the match against FC Juarez, in round 19 of the competition, and will now undergo medical tests in the next few hours to determine the severity of his injury.
Ferretti said that the substitute goalkeepers must have confidence in themselves and not try to be like the Argentine goalkeeper, but rather be themselves.
"The one who is chosen should not think that they have to play like Nahuel or be Nahuel, they must be themselves, they are here because they have the ability and have been chosen for this squad.
"They have training sessions with Nahuel and I have no doubt about it, that's why they belong to this club and they must play naturally," he said.
The substitute goalkeepers are Miguel Ortega and Eduardo Fernández, who trained today at the Universitario Stadium, in preparation for the first leg match against América, to be held on Thursday at the Azteca Stadium.
