One year after being dismissed from his position, the Argentine coach was officially announced as the strategist of the 'Rayados', replacing Uruguayan Diego Alonso.

Happy birthday. Argentine Antonio Mohamed was appointed on Wednesday as head coach of Monterrey, a year after leaving the Mexican club.

In his first stint as coach of the 'Rayados', from 2015 to 2018, Mohamed won the Apertura 2017 tournament.

"Antonio Mohamed will take charge of the team's coaching. Mohamed will come to face the commitments of the current semester, both in the Apertura 2019 tournament of the Liga MX and in the Club World Cup to be held in December in Qatar," the club said in a statement.

The 'Turco' Mohamed, 49, will replace Uruguayan Diego Alonso, who was dismissed on September 30 after the team suffered their sixth defeat in the Apertura tournament.

"Hello 'Rayados', the truth is that I'm extremely happy, we're going for redemption, we need the support of the best fans in Mexico to go together for the glory. See you soon, thank you," Mohamed said in a video posted by the club.

With a wide trajectory

In Mexico, Mohamed has coached Monarcas Morelia, Querétaro, Jaguares de Chiapas, Zacatepec, Veracruz, Tijuana, América, and Monterrey.

As the coach of 'Xoloitzcuintles' de Tijuana, he won the Apertura 2012 tournament and two years later he achieved the title with América.

In Argentina, he coached Huracán, Colón, and Independiente, with whom he won the Copa Sudamericana in 2010. He has also been the coach of Honduran clubs Fox and Mayatán, and Spanish club Celta de Vigo. Reuters
