The Argentine strategist was dismissed from his position after Morelia's defeat against América in the Apertura 2019 of the Liga MX.

Argentinian Javier Torrente has been fired as coach of Morelia due to the team's poor results in the Apertura 2019 of the Liga MX, the institution announced on Sunday.

"We have ended the working relationship with Javier Torrente, and we thank him and his coaching staff for the effort and dedication they put into this project," said the Mexican team's management in a statement. Peruvian players Edison Flores and Ray Sandoval play for the team.

Torrente, 50, joined Morelia on February 28 and never managed to achieve a positive streak. In the Clausura 2019, he coached eight matches with one win, five draws, and two losses. In the current Apertura, he won one match and lost four, leaving Monarcas in fifteenth place in the standings.

Morelia had a good performance for most of yesterday's match against America, but lost 1-0, which led the management to decide to part ways with the coach.

Morelia explained that in the coming days they will announce the person responsible for taking over the team, which will face Pumas UNAM next Friday.

Torrente became the second coach to be fired in the Apertura, following the dismissal of José Luis Sánchez Solá in Puebla.

Although they have received approval from their management, Enrique Meza of Veracruz and Ricardo La Volpe of Toluca are at risk of losing their jobs, according to the Mexican media.
