MEXICO -- The BBVA Stadium will witness one of the most anticipated matches of the third round of the Apertura 2019. Monterrey will seek to gain their first points against Leon, in a duel that will bring together two of the championship-contending teams.
TITLE CONTENDING TEAMS
Due to the squad they have and the results they obtained in the previous semester, both teams are candidates to reach the title match. Leon is the current runner-up, while Monterrey reached the semifinals but won the CONCACAF Champions League.
OFFENSIVE POWER ON BOTH ROSTERS
Although both clubs have extensive rosters, it is noteworthy the names that each coach has at their disposal to attack. Rayados have players like Rogelio Funes Mori, Dorlan Pabón, Rodolfo Pizarro, and Avilés Hurtado. On the other hand, the "Esmeraldas" have Ángel Mena, Ismael Sosa, Joel Campbell, José Macías, and Leonardo Ramos.
MONTERREY SEEKS TO GET OUT OF THE SLUMP AT HOME
Rayados started the Apertura 2019 with two losses, first against América and then against Atlético de San Luis, however, both were as visitors. For the third matchday, they will return to the BBVA Stadium, where they haven't lost since September 2018.
RAYADO DOMINANCE
The Monterrey side has gone 10 matches in the Liga BBVA MX without losing against the teams from Bajio. The last time the "Esmeraldas" came out victorious against Rayados was in February 2014. Since then, Monterrey has accumulated eight wins and two draws.
IMBALANCED DUEL IN TERMS OF SQUAD VALUE
Monterrey is the most expensive team in Mexican soccer with an estimated value of 87.80 million euros, according to Transfermarkt, while Leon is in eighth position in that category with 34.35 million euros.
