With the departure of Agustín Marchesín to Porto, there are four players from América who have come to European football under Miguel Herrera's coaching. It is worth mentioning that all of them have left Coapa with championships in their resumes.
Diego Reyes
He went to Europe after winning the Clausura 2013. Reyes tried his luck with Porto in Portugal, but he couldn't secure a spot in the starting lineup, so he was loaned to Real Sociedad and Espanyol. The latter attempted to buy him, but they couldn't reach an agreement with the Portuguese, so he returned. After his contract with Dragones Azules ended, he went to Fenerbahce, where he also didn't become a starter, and he was loaned to Leganés. Currently, he has offers to leave the Turkish team.
Diego Lainez
He attracted the interest of several teams in Europe from the early months of his professional career. However, his departure came at the beginning of 2019 to Real Betis, after being part of the team that won the Apertura 2018. In his first semester in Europe, he played in 16 matches, four of them as a starter, with one goal.
Edson Álvarez
Before the start of the 2019/2020 season, he was signed by Ajax in the Netherlands. Under Herrera's coaching, he won three championships: a league title, a cup, and a Champion of Champions, although he didn't participate in the latter due to negotiations with the European team. He signed with them for the next five years.
Agustín Marchesín
The Argentine goalkeeper arrived at Coapa in the Clausura 2017, when Miguel Herrera was the head coach of Tijuana. However, they met six months later when the second chapter of the coach with América began. The goalkeeper was a league, cup, and Champion of Champions winner before leaving for Porto.
