MEXICO -- Pumas has begun a new era after Nicolás Castillo's departure, leading the team to find reinforcements such as Martín Rodríguez, Carlos González, and Felipe Mora. The three have been crucial in the team's first two matches of the season, scoring goals and securing a couple of victories. Their adaptation was immediate and this is highlighted by David Patiño.
"We knew the ability of the reinforcements and their response doesn't surprise us," explained the coach at a press conference after Sunday's victory against Necaxa at Ciudad Universitaria.
"We take it one game at a time and we have high aspirations. We want happiness for the team and the fans," added the strategist.
Patiño analyzed that there were plenty of mistakes from both teams, but in the end, the three points stayed at home thanks to their accuracy.
"In every match, there is always a balance of success and error and the combination of both criteria leads to a positive result. Today, there were more successes and it was transformed into a victory," he valued.
An aspect equally highlighted by the coach is the squad they have and the competition within the team to make the starting lineup. To the extent that Marcelo Díaz stayed on the bench in this match and his place was taken by Kevin Escamilla.
"There is great internal competition and Marcelo (Díaz) didn't play in the first match, which puts him at a disadvantage in the internal competition. But it actually strengthens us to have a rich squad. I infinitely appreciate Marcelo's generosity and that of the whole team when they don't get to play," he emphasized.
