Argentine forward Maximiliano Barreiro received his naturalization letter on Tuesday afternoon from the President of the Republic, Lenín Moreno Garcés.

Barreiro becomes an Ecuadorian citizen for his "relevant services" and "contributions in the football and social field" provided to the country in recent years, as mentioned in Decree 453 by the President.

Barreiro arrived in the country in 2014 to wear Mushuc Runa's jersey, then had a stint in Uruguay's Defensor Sporting in the first half of 2015, and then returned to the Ambato team. In 2016, he defended Delfín de Manta, where he had the best campaign of his career, scoring 26 goals in 44 matches (0.59 goals per game) and winning the league's top scorer title.

The now Ecuadorian was hired in 2017 by Mexico's Necaxa due to his great campaign with the cetacean team, but in a semester he only played 15 matches and scored just two goals.

The forward's last club had been Independiente del Valle, a team he joined in the second half of 2017 and scored 11 goals in 24 matches. However, he was forced to terminate his contract due to problems with former 'negriazul' coach Gabriel Schürrer.

The forward is currently without a team. (D)
