Ambience of World Cup outside Brondby Stadium
Denmark and Mexico, two countries that will be in Russia 2018, will polish the final details on the field. But off the field, it's all about party. Fans from both countries coexist in peace. "El Cielito Lindo" can be heard over and over again among the present compatriots.
But on the esplanade, a Danish man stands out. His name is Pir and he wears a jersey from Club Deportivo Guadalajara. A Danish Chivahermano. How is it possible? He is married to a Mexican, but he is not a fan of Rojiblanco just because of that.
"It is because I like the soccer philosophy that Chivas has, it is like the Brondby club, very aggressive, I also like the idea that it only has Mexican players and I like offensive play," explains Pir.
"When I got married (to a Mexican) I learned more about Chivas, but I discovered the team before that, on my own. I have known about Chivas since 1986 because when the Danish team went to Mexico for the World Cup, they stayed in Guadalajara. I knew a little bit at that time, but when I got married, I started to know more about the team", he adds before entering the stadium.
Now, his heart is divided. His wife is Mexican, but he wishes for the victory of his country in this friendly match on Saturday. "I think it will be a very offensive, exciting game. I hope that both teams show their capabilities, and of course, I wish for Denmark's victory because I am Danish, but a 2-2 result would be very good," he asserts.
Now, it's time to enter the stands and occupy the space from which he will support Denmark, wearing a Chivas jersey. The song says that in all of Mexico there is always a Chivahermano... perhaps beyond. "Up with Chivas," says Pir before saying goodbye.
