Ricardo Pelaez's arrival at Cruz Azul sparks interest in Ivan Marcone
Ever since Ricardo Péláez took over as Cruz Azul's sporting director, the name of Ivan Marcone has been constantly mentioned as a potential reinforcement for the team. According to Argentine media, the Lanus midfielder is on La Maquina's radar. However, club president Nicolás Russo assured that, although there is interest, no agreement has been reached yet.
"If you're asking about Marcone, I won't comment. The move hasn't happened yet. That's all," said Lanus' director in a phone interview with La Afición. In fact, Russo has avoided providing any information about Marcone's negotiations since last Thursday, claiming he would wait until Monday to speak on the matter.
Nevertheless, some Argentine media outlets tweeted this morning that Marcone is already traveling to Mexico to undergo his physical tests with Cruz Azul and sign his contract.
Yesterday, Marcone himself, after his last match with Lanus against Atletico Tucuman, acknowledged the interest from La Maquina in acquiring his services, but he didn't confirm anything either.
"I am aware of the interest. This week, I will talk to my agent to clarify the situation... Cruz Azul is a big club, and it's a privilege to be targeted by them," said the 27-year-old player, for whom Cruz Azul could pay around 6 million dollars.
