The new sports director of Cruz Azul aims to win titles
Former footballer Ricardo Pelaez has set the goal of winning the Mexican soccer championship as soon as possible, according to what he mentioned this Wednesday in his presentation as the new sports director of the team.
"I want to win at least one title with Cruz Azul in the short term, we are going all in, we want to be champions and for qualification to be a permanent obligation in this institution, the minimum objective and beyond," committed Pelaez.
Cruz Azul has not been able to be crowned as league champion since the 1997 Winter tournament, while in this Clausura 2018 campaign, it did not manage to qualify for the playoffs.
The former América executive and Mexican national team was accompanied at the presentation ceremony by the president of Cruz Azul, Guillermo Álvarez, and Portuguese coach Pedro Caixinha.
Despite his past with América, Pelaez stated that he believes more in professionalism than in false love for the shirt, and therefore expects to join the restructuring project implemented by coach Caixinha since his arrival for the Clausura 2018 tournament.
The new sports director of Cruz Azul, who replaces Eduardo de la Torre in the position, signed a two-year contract after two weeks of negotiations.
Pelaez acknowledged that during the talks with the team's management, he did not receive calls from any agent, specifically from representative Carlos Hurtado, who has been linked to the signings of several players for the Mexican team.
"I haven't seen anything suspicious other than respect for the decisions that the coach and I are planning as a team to choose the best players," Pelaez clarified, the former Necaxa player in Mexico and the national team.
