Mexican Soccer Playoffs: Some Teams Secure a Spot, Others are Eliminated

Before the final round of the regular season, some clubs have secured their place to compete in the Mexican soccer playoffs. These teams include Toluca, Santos, both Regios teams, and America. On the other hand, there is the general purgatory, which includes Pumas and Leon, teams that will determine many things on Matchday 17.

Lastly, the teams that officially no longer have any mathematical possibility of making it into the playoffs are Chivas, Veracruz, Queretaro, Atlas, and Lobos BUAP; the latter even being relegated. However, despite being eliminated, there are players who had a very good tournament regardless of their team's performance.

Milton Caraglio

One of the most talented players that Atlas has among its ranks is Milton Caraglio. The Argentinean footballer has played in 15 matches in this tournament, being an undisputed starter for Los Zorros.

Additionally, Caraglio is the top scorer of the red and black team, with eight goals to his name.

Edson Puch

The Chilean is one of the most disruptive players not only in Queretaro but in Mexican soccer. His quality and technique are unquestionable, being one of the cornerstones of Gallos in their midfield.

Despite not having his best version in this tournament and, furthermore, not playing in the World Cup with Chile, Puch managed to score five goals, being the team's top scorer.

Rodolfo Pizarro

Despite Chivas having a forgettable tournament, Guadalajara has one of the best players in the league in their lineup, perhaps the best Mexican player of this 2018 Clausura: Rodolfo Pizarro, who even has possibilities of going to the World Cup, although this is still uncertain.

A player with great disruption and versatility, who organizes a significant part of Chivas' game. His characteristics make him almost unique, in addition to currently being in exceptional form.

Daniel Villalva

One of the best players that Veracruz has had in this tournament. "Keko" has been a fundamental element in Guillermo Vazquez's scheme to achieve the team's salvation, along with players like Menendez, Murillo, among others.

Despite only having one goal and two assists, the Argentinean is a very reliable player for the midfield, who sometimes acts as a second striker.

Tiago Volpi

Perhaps not liked by many, but undoubtedly one of the top five goalkeepers in Mexican soccer, alongside Jose de Jesus Corona, Alfredo Talavera, Nahuel Guzman, and Agustin Marchesin.

He has only conceded 17 goals in the tournament, practically one goal per game, and has a total of 65 saves in this 2018 Clausura.
