First National Water Ski Tournament Held at Rancho Avándaro

A great atmosphere was experienced during the first National Water Ski Tournament held at the facilities of Rancho Avándaro, where Carlos Lamadrid took the first place in the men's open slalom.

The bronze medalist at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara faced David Garza, Diego Sahagún, Rodrigo Chapoy and Sandro Ambrosi, who did not make it easy for the winner of this tournament.

"It is an honor to participate in this first tournament at Rancho Avándaro and the first national competition of the year, an excellent inauguration. I am very happy and impressed with the facilities since it is one of the best lakes in the world. I am delighted to have won this first national," said the winner of this first edition to La Afición.

Carlos Lamadrid said he is ready to earn a place in the upcoming Pan American Games and also hopes to repeat or improve what he achieved in Guadalajara 2011.

"The selection process for the Pan American Games in Lima is about to begin. This year will be tough. We have the Latin American Championship and other tournaments at the end of the year to improve ourselves for 2019. I want to be back on the podium, just like in Guadalajara 2011."

Throughout the afternoon, there were also other tournaments for different age groups, all with a plan to strengthen the sport within our country and to compete on the international stage.

Mauricio Otero, tournament director, spoke about the importance of this first tournament, as the intention is to organize world-class competitions in the future.

"With this event, we are promoting sports in Valle de Bravo. We have many skiers who can already compete here. We plan to have this every year, in addition to bringing major tournaments such as the Latin American or World Championships. At Rancho Avándaro, we have a team of trainers, including the slalom world champion from Italy, among other great skiing figures. We are investing in infrastructure and training to develop important prospects," Otero concluded.
