MEXICO -- Alejandro Irarragorri, president of Santos and member of the Marketing Committee of the Mexican Football Federation, lamented that there have been leaks from council members to the press, which has caused rumors about the disappearance of promotion and relegation.
"The most regrettable thing, which I believe Mexican football is going through, is the irresponsible and manipulative leak of information by its members, and that is the saddest thing. When these committees are working on prospects, on improvement projects for different areas of football, that is a very regrettable and delicate issue," he declared for Futbol Picante.
The executive is unaware of which members are leaking information to the media, but they will try to find those responsible.
"It is worrying that there are even images, that there are copies of the books from the meetings circulating in the press... When something is leaked prematurely, there are very few possibilities to build forward, that's why we have to wait for the dish to arrive at the table to understand it in its full context."
The executive stressed that the priority is not to abolish promotion and relegation but to "improve the structures of football in its different divisions to safeguard the generation of resources and ensure that those resources, instead of going outside, generate value for the football structures."
Finally, he thanked the executives who proposed him to replace Decio de María and assured that Yon de Luisa is the ideal person to take his place.
