About Guillermo "Choque" Galindo

Originally from Gómez Palacio, proud of the Santa Rosa neighborhood, Guillermo "Choque" Galindo disliked losing even in friendly games when he played in the neighborhood as a child. He was raised in a tough neighborhood where you always had to play hard, and sometimes rough.

In his early years, in pursuit of his dream of becoming a football player, he tried his luck at an IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) call-up, accompanied by Lupillo Romo, Kike Galindo, Jorge Zamora, Mauricio González, and Guadalupe Pérez, who all ended up playing for Santos Laguna at different stages.

From a young age, "Choque" Galindo made a difference in the teams he played for. At the age of 10, he became the top scorer in his first national tournament in Mexico City. Later, at the age of 12, he was recognized as the best player in Sinaloa.

As the years went by, he was selected to play in the senior category of IMSS, where Lupe Romo, Próspero Hernández, Nono Ávalos, Fernando de la Rosa, Luis Alberto González, Juan Rodríguez, and José Luis "Puma" Rodríguez played.

A tournament was held in Trinidad, Tlaxcala, where there was a team called Santos IMSS Tlaxcala. The winner of that tournament would take the franchise. The final was won against Jalisco in 1983.

PROFESSIONALISM

Guillermo Galindo embarked on different teams at a professional level, including Santos IMSS Laguna in the Second Division, Santos Laguna, Correcaminos de la UAT, Gallos del Querétaro, and Tampico Madero in the First Division.

In the Ascenso MX league, he played for Acapulco, Tijuana, La Piedad Michoacán, and Alacranes de Durango. He then moved on to the United States League with Patriotas del Paso Texas and retired from the field in 2000.

AN ANECDOTE AGAINST RAYADOS

"We always used to play against Monterrey in preseason, with Santos Laguna from the Second Division against Monterrey from the First Division. It was like going to the cerrito where we faced players like the Brazilian Bahía, Jalapa Ortega, Abuelo Cruz, and Guamerú García, Becerra."

"There, at the cerrito, I scored a goal against goalkeeper Tirzo Carpizo. It was a pride to score against a First Division team," he added.

"In something more recent, when Santos was fighting against relegation, we beat Monterrey 5-4 in a game where we were losing and eventually turned the score around."

GRATEFUL TO HIS MENTORS

"I was always surrounded by very good people who guided us in the right direction, like Prof. Jaime, Javier García, who was once the coach of Club Asturias Gómez Palacio, and Don Pepe Díaz Couder. They were a fundamental support and gave us advice."

THE BEST MOMENT

"There were many good moments in my career, but the one I remember with the most emotion is undoubtedly the Ascenso championship. It was the first season of Santos as a professional team, transitioning from amateur to professional. To defeat all the teams in that division and become champions in the first season was a dream come true. In the final against Pumas ENEP, it was a thrilling match. We were always behind in the score, but in the end, with a pass from me to Puma Rodríguez, he scored the winning goal to beat them 3-2."
