The head coach of Lobos of the Autonomous University of Puebla (UAP), Rafael Puente del Río, stated that despite suffering their fifth away defeat, they will achieve the goals set in this tournament, but clarified that to do so they must maintain the stance of respecting their style of play.
"We lost, but in this way, playing like this, respecting our style, being as intense as we were, capable of overcoming adversity, and I am convinced that we will achieve our objectives," he said.
In that regard, he said, "today we are saved. If the football year ended today, we would have achieved our primary objective, which is to retain our category and we are close."
Regarding the performance of his players against the Xoloitzcuintles of Tijuana, against whom they lost 3-1, he considered that "the team continued to behave well, continued to be dominant, looked for the ball, and was able to impose its game. It is difficult to argue that you feel satisfied with the performance of your team when you end up losing, but on this occasion, although the defeat hurts in general terms and satisfaction as such does not fit, we are aware that on a difficult field and against a rival that defends very well, we were able to impose our game and be the protagonists of the match and dominate the ball for long periods."
He added: "We continue to fight, and it is important to emphasize that despite going 3-0 down, any other team, as they usually say, throws in the towel and gives up and stops fighting, but this team continued to fight and rightfully scored a goal, I think we deserved at least one more. Based strictly on today's performance, we can leave knowing that we have a clear idea that is executed well and can give any team a game."
Finally, he said that despite their low production, their fans are proud of their team: "The commitment will always be to represent the university, every time a match ends, we must feel dignified represented. As a consequence of dignifyingly representing the university, we get the points to achieve the objective, which is permanence."
