In every team, there may be culprits when it comes to having bad results. Initially, blame is placed on the coach, who is immediately asked to be cut off; then it goes on to the players, and finally, the blame falls on the top ranks.
In the case of Cruz Azul, Pedro Caixinha, conference after conference, acknowledges the blame for the results; afterwards, his players confessed that they are the main causes of the bad streak, as they cannot reflect the Portuguese's idea on the field, and now it was Eduardo de la Torre, the sports director, who came out to face the situation.
Without hesitation, Yayo acknowledged that "I am the main responsible for the bad results; I am aware of that and I don't shy away from it at all" when questioned about the team's eight units halfway through the tournament.
In Cruz Azul's recent matches, the fans have demanded Caixinha's dismissal, arguing that he has one of the worst records compared to his predecessor, Paco Jémez; however, de la Torre reaffirmed the project they have with the Portuguese.
"I don't know if these are the worst numbers, but what I can tell you is that this project doesn't depend on whether we win or lose this Saturday, on what we did before, or on what we may do in this tournament. The bad start is evident, but we are confident that we will bounce back, and this is the right moment to clarify that this is a long-term project," the coach confirmed.
THE SOLUTION TO THE LACK OF GOAL IS NOT IN YOUTH TEAMS
For the sports president of La Máquina, the lack of goal-scoring by the celestial forwards does not lie in their youth teams, as they hire experienced goal scorers who have demonstrated their good scoring instinct in other leagues.
"It would be ridiculous to look at the youth teams when you bring in players who have been goal-scoring champions in their respective leagues, it would be contradictory to do so. When you look at youth teams, you are looking for a different type of solutions," he said.
NEW SIGNINGS ARE IN A PROCESS
The arrival of Walter Montoya and Carlos Peña has left a bitter taste in the team. Despite that, de la Torre indicated that they are in a process: "it's not an excuse, but they have a previous resume that supports them, and I know they still have a lot to give. If you take a look at all the teams, all the signings have difficulties."
Regarding the issue of a rift in the dressing room after the statements that Caixinha made about Ángel Mena's bad attitude, the sports director assured that "The group is strong. They know they haven't lived up to expectations, but they are working hard."
