Chivas puts one foot in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions by defeating Cibao FC away.
Chivas was better and dominated the whole match, but it wasn't as easy as it seemed. There was no rout and in the end the result was short, but apparently definitive, with goals from Chapo Sánchez and Macías, the tapatíos won in the Dominican Republic.
Cibao 0, Chivas 2.
The first half in the Dominican Republic was a concert of the Rebaño, but the damage was minor for the cibaeño team.
The rojiblancos had everything to score more goals, but they settled for Jesús Enrique Sánchez's goal, which had them winning this match in the Caribbean.
The match began with the Mexicans bombarding the Argentine goalkeeper of the Caribbeans, but the goal didn't come.
The first dangerous play of the rojiblancos was from Jesús Godínez, a cross from the right wing by Orbelín Pineda, measured for the head of 'Chuyito' Godínez and the homegrown player hit it hard, but to the side. One on one against the goalkeeper and the homegrown player missed a clear goal for Chivas.
Chivas' goal came in the 39th minute when Orbelín Pineda had the ball on the edge of the area and saw Chapo Sánchez's movement into space and gave him half a goal, the Sonoran player hit it with faith and courage to the base of the right post of the Argentine goalkeeper and it was a goal for Chivas. A powerful shot and finally the lock was opened in the Dominican Republic. Good shot and with that goal the first half ended.
In the second half, the Rebaño continued to search for the opposing goal, but once again injuries plagued the Rebaño.
Jair Pereira requested the change and Carlos Salcido entered for the defender.
Another injury for el Comandante and the Rebaño burned a defensive substitution.
In the second half, the rojiblancos had at least four clear opportunities to extend the lead.
Two shots off the post, one from Alan Pulido and another one from Pizarro, plus a great save from the Argentine goalkeeper, and the second goal for Chivas didn't come.
The rojiblancos insisted and Pelado Almeyda made a substitution on the field to seek depth, he took out Godínez to give Macías minutes.
The youngest of the rojiblanca academy scored the second of the night, it was almost the 93rd minute and Cisneros sent a pass to Pulido, but Alan saw Macías better positioned and with his right foot he sent it into the net. A goal that brought a bit of justice to the scoreboard, the second goal came at the end of the match.
Macías scored the second and Almeyda's changes paid off. Now next week they have to finish the job against this resilient opponent.
