Djaniny Tavares is unstoppable and continues on track for a possible scoring title in the Liga Bancomer.

The Cape Verdean player scored a goal in Santos Laguna's 0-2 victory over Chivas, reaching seven goals in 513 minutes played. He has played in six matches, all of them as a starter.

With almost seven years in Mexican soccer, always with Santos, Tavares has been a valuable asset, despite going through some lean seasons in terms of scoring due to injuries and low performance.

However, overall the 26-year-old forward has responded and is approaching his best season in Mexican soccer. His best goal-scoring tournament was in the Apertura 2015, when he scored seven goals in just five matches, the same amount he has scored so far in the current tournament.

The difference is that we are only in Round 6 and there are 11 more matches to be played, which could be enough for him to claim the crown as the top scorer of the current season.

Among the strongest competitors for the African player for the scoring title are the Chilean forward Nicolás Castillo from Pumas, and the Mexican forward Henry Martín from América.

Castillo, with proven capacity, is Pumas' main weapon and even though he has only scored four goals so far, he should never be counted out. Martín, from América, has also been performing strongly since he arrived in Coapa, and has scored five goals.

Furthermore, with four goals, Carlos González from Necaxa is also eyeing the top scorer title, as well as the Argentinean Matías Alustiza, who has formed an excellent partnership with Castillo in Pumas.

'Chavo' has scored three goals so far, just like Avilés Hurtado and Alfonso González, both from Monterrey.
