It is possible that starting from 2019 and in the following four years, the Liga MX will suspend promotions and relegations. Enrique Bonilla, President of the tournament, revealed this information after the request from the Sports Development Committee.
Regarding this controversial proposal, two coaches who manage in the Mexican First Division have given their points of view in communications with 'ESPN' and 'Fox Sports'. Miguel Herrera and Rubén Romano have polarized opinions.
The Atlas coach is clearly against it. "For me, it would be madness (to eliminate relegation), it would take away all the emotions, take away the injection to each team because they would no longer have worries," said Romano.
On the other hand, the América coach would agree. "Such a drastic measure is not necessary. The Premier League did it for a while, but then they strengthened when it returned. Hopefully it will be the best for football. It doesn't let you fall into mediocrity," stated Herrera.
The President of the Liga MX warned that all proposals will be discussed and put to a vote at the next Owners' Assembly.
