Mayos de Navojoa Defeat Tomateros de Culiacán 4-2 in the Final Series of the 2017-18 Mexican Pacific League Baseball Championship

In front of a packed stadium, the Sonora team stayed in the fight for the winter baseball crown by defeating the Tomateros on their own turf, thanks to 13 hits, two of them home runs.

Puerto Rican Jovan Rosa (1) in the fourth inning and Sonora native Alejandro González (1) in the seventh were the culprits behind the two "bambinazos" (home runs), contributing three of the four runs that led to the triumph of the Sonora team.

For the Tomateros, Sonora slugger José Guadalupe Chávez (1) also hit a solo home run in the eighth inning, which did little to help the Sinaloa cause.

American Tyler Alexander (1-0) took the win for the Mayos, with support from his compatriot Daniel Moskos (1) who saved the game. Sergio Mitre (0-1), a Mexican Major Leaguer, took the loss for the Tomateros. Despite this defeat, the Tomateros are still leading the series 2-1 in this 2017-18 Championship Final.

This Wednesday, the fourth game of this great LMP final will be played at the same Tomateros venue. The Tomateros are just two wins away from claiming the crown in the 2017-18 season.

The team that becomes champion will represent Mexican winter baseball in the upcoming 2018 Caribbean Series, which will take place starting in February at the Panamericano Stadium in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
