Pumas de la UNAM lose 2-0 against Lobos BUAP in the Copa MX

With goals from Juan Carlos García Sancho and Irven Ávila in the final moments of the match, Lobos de la BUAP defeated Pumas de la UNAM 2-0 in the second round of the Clausura 2018 edition of the Copa MX, which took place on Wednesday night at Ciudad Universitaria.

Both teams struggled with the cold weather, and it wasn't until the 7th minute when Rodrigo González from UNAM sustained an injury, which marked the early minutes of the game. Diego Rodríguez took González's place on the field.

It wasn't until the 23rd minute when Lobos started to put pressure on the opposing team's goal through Manuel Pérez's attempts. UNAM's goalkeeper, Bernabé Magaña, responded well, even denying a second attempt by Jerónimo Amione in the 24th minute.

Although Lobos showed persistence, they lacked precision in front of the goal. A memorable moment was veteran Carlos Morales's shot that missed the target. The game continued with back and forth plays, but neither Daniel Ramírez from Pumas nor Rodrigo Godínez from BUAP were able to score.

In the second half, Pumas pushed forward, and Lobos' goalkeeper, Jorge Villalpando, became the hero by saving two clear opportunities, maintaining his team's clean sheet and contributing to the victory.

When it seemed that the match would end in a draw, Lobos opened the scoring in the 85th minute with a corner kick. Juan Carlos García Sancho headed the ball into the net to make it 1-0.

Shortly after, Pumas suffered another blow as a defensive error allowed Irven Ávila to score a one-on-one goal in the 87th minute, sealing the 2-0 victory. This win represents Lobos BUAP's first triumph in the Copa MX and their first victory of the year before their upcoming Liga MX match against Pachuca.
